Description

2D Game Level Design is the process of creating structured environments within a 2D game, ensuring a balance between challenge, aesthetics, and gameplay flow. Designers craft layouts with platforms, obstacles, enemies, and interactive elements to enhance player experience. Levels can be designed for platformers, puzzles, RPGs, or adventure games using game engines like Unity, Godot, or GameMaker, or through hand-drawn/sketched blueprints.

Rules

  • Theme & Genre – The level must align with the assigned theme ( For e.g., sci-fi, medieval, horror etc.) and be designed for a specific game genre.
  • Originality – The level must be uniquely created by the participant; direct copying from existing games is not allowed.
  • Tools & Software – Participants can use any 2D game development software or sketching Softwares ( Photoshop,Krita or Autodesk sketchBook)to level their design manually, but AI-generated designs must be restricted.
  • Layout & Gameplay – The level should have a clear structure, a start and endpoint, logical player progression, and balanced challenges.
  • Interactivity & Mechanics – The level should incorporate gameplay elements like enemies, puzzles, collectibles, or moving platforms.
  • Visual Representation – The level can be presented as:
    • A hand-drawn or digital sketch outlining the level layout.
    • A playable prototype in a game engine.
    • A detailed level design document explaining mechanics, objectives, and challenges.
  • No Explicit Content – The level should not contain inappropriate, offensive, or copyrighted materials.
  • Submission Format – Entries should be submitted as PNG, JPEG (for sketches), PDF (for documentation), or a playable demo file.
  • Judging Criteria – Entries will be evaluated on creativity, level design structure, gameplay balance, challenge progression, and visual clarity.
  • Time Limit – There will be 2 working days for completing the whole artwork.
