Rotoscopy Competition Rules & Regulations – 2025
General Information
- Duration: 6 hours (strict time limit)
- Task: Rotoscoping a 3–4 second video clip (Videos)
- Software Allowed – After effects
Rules
Clip Guidelines
- No substitution or modification of the provided footage is allowed.
- Footage will be 24/25/30 fps
- You must manually create and animate rotoscope shapes.
Allowed Techniques
- Manual rotoscoping using bezier/mask shapes
- Keyframing shape animations
- Point tracking for helper references
- Mask Tracking (if needed)
- Edge feathering, motion blur, shape parenting (if needed)
Technical Specifications
- Resolution: Original footage resolution (do not resize)
- Matte Output: Grayscale (White = subject, Black = background)
- Frame Range: Entire clip (e.g., Frame 1–96 for 4s @ 24fps)
- No color grading or comping required—pure rotoscoping only.
Remember Point
Using external footage or reference/ or any reference for anatomy, mask flow is not allowed.
Submission Requirements
- Final rendered black and white matte video with complete breakdown (in .mov or .mp4 format, H.264)
- Working project file (e.g., .aep for After Effects)
- Videos Intro / outro plays an important role.
- intro contains – Institute Name (Arena Animation Kalkaji), Software Icon(s), Project Name
- outro – CTA (Institute Info) and a thankyou.
- File naming format: RR_Name_RotoRace2025.zip
- eg., – RR_raghav_RotoRace2025.zip
- Video Name – RR_Student Name_Student id_ Name of the house_2025
- eg., – RR_raghav_2212434_house of phoenix_2025
- Videos Intro / outro plays an important role.
Time Management
- You must submit within the 6-hour window.
- Late submissions will incur a 10-point penalty per 10 minutes late.
- Submissions more than 30 minutes late will be disqualified.
Must Have
Final Submission should Include a folder in which both file and video(containing complete breakdown) should be available Separately.
